Randy Johnson
Randall David Johnson (born September 10, 1963 in Walnut Creek, California), is a left-handed starting pitcher for the New York Yankees.
He is noted for his stature (at 6 ft 10 in, he was the tallest player in the history of MLB, until the 2002 debut of Jon Rauch) and having one of the most dominant fastballs in the game, regularly approaching, and occasionally even exceeding, 100 mph during his prime. He has won the Cy Young Award five times, second only to Roger Clemens' seven.
Through the 2006 season, of all active pitchers lifetime Johnson is 1st
in strikeouts per 9 innings pitched (10.77 which is also 1st of all pitchers
ever) and hit batsmen (178 which is also 4th of all pitchers ever), 2nd
in strikeouts (4,544) and shutouts (37), 3rd in hits allowed per 9 innings
pitched (7.14), 4th in wins (280), 6th in ERA (3.22) and wild pitches
(101), and 7th in won-lost percentage (.656). He is also the 3rd oldest
player in major league baseball.
