In the 2006 $250,000 WWE Diva Search Layla won a week's worth of immunity from the search on the July 14 (taped July 11) edition of Friday Night SmackDown! when she won Sgt. Slaughter 's "Diva Boot Camp" obstacle course. During the course she is said to have jumped over the tire hop section of the course instead of going through it and to have not had both of her feet cross the finish line due to her doing a split (in which she ripped her tights), but she was awarded the immunity none the less. She won another competition, the "Diva Search Talent Show", on the August 11 edition of SmackDown, when she danced dressed as a police officer. She went on to win the entire Diva Search, beating out Jen England in the finals aired on the USA Network on August 16.
Layla made her first "official" WWE appearance at the 2006 SummerSlam in a backstage segment with several other divas, during which they initially taunted and teased her before revealing that "it was all in fun" and part of an "initiation" of sorts. Following this they dragged her into the showers, fully clothed, spanking her and laughing.
The week after SummerSlam Layla made her debut as an official member of the SmackDown! brand in an interview with Mike "The Miz" Mizanin, although he didn't allow her the chance to say much, spending most of the time talking about himself. After this Layla wasn't seen on WWE TV for four weeks, reappearing for the September 22, 2006 edition of SmackDown! and getting into confrontations with both Kristal Marshall and Jillian Hall. After this she was again missing for a number of weeks, resurfacing at No Mercy to trick The Miz into getting a lapdance from Big Dick Johnson (when he was expecting one from her) embarassing him. She returned to SmackDown! on October 20, to participate in a "Diva Dance-off" contest against Michelle McCool, Ashley Massaro, Jillian Hall and Kristal Marshall, after which she got into another confrontation with Marshall. The next week she made her official in-ring debut when she was the last person eliminated from the "Diva Trick-or-Treat Battle Royal", thanks to The Miz pulling her off the ring apron and to the floor.
